Platt Perspective on Business and Technology

More on this blog as an ongoing experiment, now at 40 days active

Posted in blogs and marketing by Timothy Platt on October 24, 2009

I have seen the basic readership coming to the blog trend upwards, but as expected, that is a trend in a more saw toothed pattern with day to day ups and downs. It looks like fewer people come to the blog on weekends, for example, which is probably a very good idea for those who want to just set work and related aside a few days a week (me usually included in that group).

I have reached out to market this a few times but only with a small effort going into that. I add that while I have been reliable for posting daily, I have not always kept to the slimmed down posting size I wrote of in my last shared note about the blog itself. OK, I like to tell a good story and some of the things I write about here interest me and are full of potential as stories to me. So I start writing and the next thing I know I have closer to 1000 words than 350. Then I call a halt to it as I did with the recent Business and convergent technologies 3 and I will continue that with a part four on virtual reality and the search for a killer app.

As a final thought here I want to address a basic area of concern that a lot of people seem to share about blogging per se. If you are interested enough and actively enough engaged in some area of endeavor or discourse, you probably have enough to say about it to keep posting in a blog. This does not have to mean daily postings, but it does mean consistent postings. If you set aside blocks of time as a pre-set ongoing, scheduled appointment, you can more easily find and keep the time you need available to do that writing. And I would suggest that if you write things that would interest you, there are probably others out there who would also find it interesting. So allow for some stretch time to respond to comments posted by people who read and want to share their feedback.

I will have posted 53 times with this one and according to the tally on my blog dashboard I have 54 comments showing so far, blocked spam not counted. Most people do not write back but some do and that means developing real conversations. That is validation that a blog is really working.

I will continue to post updates on how this is going and will continue to post, and to respond to the comments you share as valued feedback and the basis for those all important conversations. Thanks, Tim Platt
